Writing Case Studies for ID

A collection of helpful information and (not-helpful lol) thoughts

I’m in the middle of designing my case study for one of my current ID projects, one of my MANY current projects I should say. This is why it takes me forever to get anything done. I’m not even sure if it’s okay to describe what I am creating as a ‘case study’, but I had a root canal this morning and the valium and whatever else it was they gave me isn’t going to let technical jargon halt the process right now.

I also probably shouldn’t be working on the design of the case study already but I feel like I’ve been working on this forever. And another thing I’m worried about is the fact that a lot of the data in the case study is non-fictional. I followed a lot of the processes an ID would go through when working, but being unable to follow through with the case study required me to make up some of the data supporting the effectiveness of the training. I tried to base the numbers off of how I felt after learning the information and implementing it in my classroom. But that data cannot accurately represent multiple data from different people from a training that didn’t actually happen. Another concern of mine is publishing the case study without permission from the author who own the rights to the information I used in the content. Since I am not a real ID, I just make up possible ID related assets and content with the knowledge I know and use as an educator. Graphics and design are all mine, the training doesn’t actually take place, but things such as the actual process I refer to during the training isn’t mine. I do not make money off of it and I am only using it to show what I know, what I have learned, what I can do and how I could possibly help someone out by providing knowledge in the best way. And reference always! Thank you grad school. Reference everything. All the time. But I certainly don’t want to get in trouble or hurt anyone by using someone else’s thoughts or ideas. If anyone has any information on that stuff, I would be super grateful.

Anyway. Here are some examples of case studies:

And I love Maddy Beard. Dream life right there! She is so inspiring. I need to come back to this video because it was definitely helpful:

I’m getting caught up in all the differences of language between the examples of case studies. But I think it will be okay as long as I set it up in a way that makes sense. Introduction/problem statement, research, design, development, prototype, deliverables, outcome, and evaluation/moving forward.
